Truck destroys church

Came across a report recently of a truck that destroyed a church in rural Australia last year.

The church, which was built in the early 1880s, had no-one inside when it was destroyed by the run-away prime-mover. The truck’s trailer held up the roof of the building while the truck cabin was perched on the edge of a drop into Lake Nagambie.

Following the incident, Reverend Ralph Mayhew said the building basically fell over once the truck was removed. “I think the whole thing just collapsed from the inside,” he said. “There’s not much to save in the church, there are cracks all over the place and lots of structural damage, so it really is a complete write-off.” The church is unlikely to be rebuilt as is supported by only six regular attenders.

Can’t help thinking there are some parallels with what’s happening on a wider scale.
