Summer reading

It’s summer in Australia and summer equals beach.
Heading off next week. Whenever I pack for a holiday I begin with books. Sad isn’t it?
Here’s my overly ambitious list of summer reading:
“Ignatius of Loyola (Fount Classics)” (Philip Caraman SJ)
Somehow Ignatius has got under this evangelical’s guard. I’ll write about him sometime.

“J.R.R. Tolkien Boxed Set (The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings)” (J.R.R. Tolkien)
Another good Catholic. Up to page 482. Reading it with my son Lachlan, aged thirteen. We’ve done the Hobbit. Six hundred pages to go.
“Church Planting Movements: How God is Redeeming a Lost World” (David Garrison)
I’ve read his pdf. Time to read the extended version.
A handy commentary on Colossians.

“Nelson : Love and Fame” (Edgar Vincent)
Picked it up in London at the Nelson exhibition. Well written but a bit too detailed (640pp) for me. Must finish it or I’ll feel guilty about my next purchase.

“St. Patrick of Ireland : A Biography” (Philip Freeman)
I never tire of reading about Patrick.
A Shakespeare play (Macbeth?) and something by GK Chesterton (Everlasting Man?) on my Palm. Free from Project Gutenberg and CCEL.
An overly ambitious list especially if the Aussies play well against South Africa in the cricket . . .
