Student missionary movements

Had some feedback on the SCM study reminding me that there are a number of student movements mobilizing for missions that qualify as inheritors of the original Student Volunteer Movement watchword, “the evangelization of the world in this generation&”: Campus Crusade for Christ, Navigators, SVM2.

I’ll update the article and mention them.

What other student movements are out there mobilizing students for world missions?

I can also recommend these books that tell the story of the original SVM:

Student power in world missions; (David M Howard)

Campus Aflame: A History of Evangelical Awakenings in Collegiate Communities (J. Edwin Orr, Richard Owen Roberts)

A Cambridge movement; with a foreword by the Lord Bishop of Liverpool (John Charles Pollock)

The creation of a student movement to evangelize the world: A history and analysis of the early stages of the Student Volunteer Movement for Foreign Missions (Timothy C Wallstrom)

All out of print. You may find them at www.abe.com

Not much as been written on its demise. Let me know if you know of any studies that have been done on its decline. I’m also looking for studies on the rise and fall (as an evangelical movement) of the YMCA.
