Amen and amen.

I also second (third and fourth) that recommendation to Paul the Spirit and the People of God, by Fee. It took me forever to read that book because I literally devoured it.

I have never read a book that so clearly explains the centrality of the Spirit to Paul's thinking: Pauline Pneumatology if we want to be high-brow :)

I'm tempted to read the heavy tome from which the substance of Fee's paperback is drawn (God's Empowering Presence), but I'm a little intimidated by the sheer size of it!

Either way the point is clear: who cares what your church background is, your theological inheritance, whatever... JUST GET YOUR FILL OF THE HOLY SPIRIT!

Facilitating a small group meeting/thingy the other night, I abandoned the text we were working through and just preached to the guys there about abandoning themselves to God and his Spirit.

I reminded them of John Wesley, David Brainerd and other "old-timers" who had encountered the Spirit powerfully after a season of "tarrying"/waiting on God.

It's not a message we hear preached much these days... waiting on God for the "fire":

O that in me the sacred fire
Might now begin to glow,
Burn up the dross of base desire,
And make the mountains flow!
