You raise two important issues (among many):

1. The communication, leadership, message and style used by growing churches as compared to those in decline.  There are clear and obvious trends which means that you don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure out which things lean towards growth.

2. There is also a deeper apologetic issue here I suggest.  I sense that many in the Australian church have forgotten how to communicate the gospel.  Indeed I wonder if we really know what the gospel is?  

Tragic but I sense a reality,
